Who is Jesus to you? “예수님은 당신에게 누구인가?”

In Scripture, reactions to Jesus differ dramatically: 성경을 보면, 사람들의 예수께 대한 반응은 매우 다양하다 – devotion (the disciples, Zacchaeus), 헌신(제자들, 삭개오) – curiosity (Nicodemus, the crowds), 호기심(니고데모나 무리들) – skepticism and hostility (Pharisees), 회의와 적대감(바리새인들) – even violent rejection (Herod). 폭력적인 거절(헤롯) And in the Christmas story of Luke 2, from a manger in a forgotten town, we see the same range of responses— responses we still see today. 누가복음 2 장의 크리스마스 이야기에서도, 작고 잊힌 마을의 말구유에서부터 오늘날까지 이어지는 다양한 반응들을 보게 된다. Let us listen to the message from the manger and ask honestly: 이제 그 말구유에서 들려오는 메시지에 귀를 기울이며, 정직하게 물어보자: Who is Jesus to me? “예수님은 나에게 누구인가?” 1. To Some—Like the Innkeeper—He Is the Stranger in the Manger 어떤 사람에게, 여관 주인처럼, 예수님은 ‘말구유의 낯선 이’이다. Luke 2:7 – “There was no room for them in the inn.” 누가복음 2장 7절은 “여관에는 그들을 위한 자리가 없었다”고 말한다 To the Innkeeper, Jesus was simply another child, another face in the crowd—a stranger in an overcrowded world. 여관 주인에게 예수님은 그저 또 하나의 아기, 붐비는 세상 속 수많은 얼굴 가운데 하나일 뿐인 낯선 이에 불과했다. The same thing happens today. 오늘날도 같은 일이 일어난다. Our world is overcrowded— 이 세상은 과밀한 세상이다. • our minds packed with news, 우리의 생각은 뉴스로 가득 차 있다. • our hearts packed with anxiety, 우리의 마음은 염려로 가득 차 있다. • our schedules packed with activities, 우리의 시간표는 수많은 활동으로 가득 차 있다. • our devices are packed with endless messages. 우리의 기기는 끝없이 밀려오는 메시지로 가득 차 있다. With so much overcrowding, it is easy to leave Jesus outside—still the stranger in the manger. 이처럼 모든 것이 꽉 차 있다 보니, 예수를 언제든지 밖에 세워 두기 쉽다ㅡ여전히 말구유의 낯선 이로. 페이지 1 / 5 Why does this happen? 왜 이런 일이 일어나는가? The reasons haven’t changed: 이유는 크게 다르지 않다. A. Some are too Busy 어떤 사람은 너무 바쁘다. God gives us 168 hours each week, but we offer Him so little time. There’s time for meals, sports, work, and entertainment—but not for worship, prayer, or service. 하나님은 우리에게 매주 168시간을 주시지만, 우리는 그분께 거의 시간을 드리지 않는다. 식사, 운동, 일, 오락을 위한 시간은 있지만, 예배, 기도, 섬김을 위한 시간은 없다. B. Some are too Blessed 어떤 사람은 너무 많은 복을 받았다. We have so much that we feel we don’t need God. The Innkeeper’s business may have been booming—too successful to notice a Savior. 가진 것이 너무 많아, 오히려 하나님이 필요 없다고 느낀다. 여관 주인의 사업은 번창하고 있었을지도 모른다ㅡ구세주를 알아보지 못할 만큼 성공적으로 C. Some are too Blind 어떤 사람은 너무 눈이 멀어 있다 Scripture says Satan blinds the eyes of the unbelieving. Many simply do not see their need for Christ. 성경은 사탄은 믿음이 없는 자들의 눈을 가린다고 말한다. 많은 사람은 단지 자신이 그리스도를 필요로 한다는 사실을 알지 못한다. D. Some are too Bland—Too Indifferent 어떤 사람은 너무 무감각하다ㅡ너무 무관심하다 This may be the largest group of all. They know about Jesus. They even respect Him. 어쩌면 이 부류가 가장 많을지도 모른다. 그들은 예수님에 대해 알고 있다. 심지어 예수를 존경하기도 한다. But they simply don’t care. 그러나 정작 마음 깊은 곳에서는 별로 관심이 없다. To Some—Like Herod—He Is the Danger in the Manger 어떤 사람에게, 헤롯처럼 예수님은 ‘말구유의 위협자’이다 Matthew 2:3–8 마태복음 2: 3–8 A baby—dangerous? Yes. 어린 아기가 위험하다고 말할 수 있는가? 그렇다 Herod heard about this Child and immediately felt threatened. Jesus challenged everything about his lifestyle. 헤롯은 이 아기에 대한 소식을 듣자마자 즉시 위협을 느꼈다. 예수님은 헤롯의 삶의 방식 전체를 정면으로 위협하는 존재였다. A. Jesus challenges the rule of wrong 예수님은 잘못된 통치에 도전하신다. Herod ruled with greed, violence, and fear. Jesus came preaching freedom, righteousness, and justice. Darkness always fears the Light. 헤롯은 탐욕과 폭력과 두려움으로 다스렸던 왕이다. 그러나 예수는 자유와 의와 공의를 선포하러 오신 분이다. 어둠은 언제나 빛을 두려워한다. 

B. Jesus exposes the truth of our hearts 예수님은 우리 마음의 진실을 드러내신다 Herod claimed he wanted to worship the Child, but secretly planned to kill Him. Jesus exposes hypocrisy—then and now. 헤롯은 겉으로는 그 아기를 예배하고 싶다고 말했지만, 속으로는 예수님을 죽일 계획을 세웠다. 예수는ㅡ그때도, 지금도 위선을 폭로하시는 분이다. For many today, Jesus is still a danger— 오늘날에도, 예수님은 여전히 위험하신 분이시다- • a danger to my pride, 나의 오만에 대한 위험 • a danger to my selfishness, 나의 이기심에 대한 위험 • a danger to my sin, 나의 죄에 대한 위험 • a danger to my throne. 나의 왕좌에 대한 위험 Even Saul, before becoming Paul, viewed Jesus as a threat to his system and persecuted Christians until the risen Christ confronted him: 사울도 바울이 되기 전에는 예수님을 자기 체제에 대한 위협으로 여기며, 부활하신 그리스도께서 그를 직접 만나 주실 때까지 그리스도인들을 핍박했다. “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me?” (Acts 9:4) “사울아, 사울아, 네가 어찌하여 나를 핍박하느냐?” (사도행전 9:4). Where Jesus is seen as a competitor, He is the danger in the manger. 예수님이 경쟁자로 보이는 곳마다, 예수님은 말구유의 위험한 분이시다. 3. To Some—Like the Wise Men and Shepherds—He Is the Changer in the Manger 어떤 사람에게ㅡ동방박사와 목자들처럼ㅡ예수님은 말구유의 변화시키는 분이다. - Matthew 2:1–12 마태복음 2:1-12 The Magi saw the star but were unsure where it led. They represent the searching heart—the heart that knows there must be something more. 동방 박사들은 한 별을 보았지만, 그 별이 정확히 어디로 인도하는지 알지 못했다. 그들은 ‘더 많은 무엇인가가 있어야 한다’는 것을 아는, 갈망하는 마음을 대표한다 The Message of Christmas Is for Everyone 크리스마스의 메시지는 모두를 위한 것이다. – the Wise Men (educated seekers),ㅡ 동방 박사처럼 교육받은 진리 탐구자들에게 – the shepherds (ordinary laborers). 목자들처럼 평범한 노동자들에게 God speaks every language—intellectual, emotional, spiritual. 하나님은 모든 언어로 말씀하신다. 지적인 언어, 정서적인 언어, 영적인 언어로. He reaches each person in a way they can understand. 하나님은 각 사람이 이해할 수 있는 방식으로 다가오신다 People today ask: 오늘날 사람들은 다음과 같이 묻는다: • Is Jesus only a historical figure? 예수님은 단지 역사적인 인물인가?

A cultural icon? 하나의 문화적 아이콘인가? • A modern mascot? 현대의 마스코트? • A gentle religious teacher? 온유한 종교를 가르치는 교사? No—He is the Biblical Jesus:아니ㅡ그 분은 성경의 예수님이다: – born in a manger, 구유에서 태어나신, – lived among us, 우리 사이에 계시는, – died for our sins, 우리를 위해서 돌아가신, – rose again, 부활하신 – transforms lives even now. 지금도 여전히 사람들의 삶을 변화시키는 분이시다. “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” (2 Cor. 5:17) 누구든지 그리스도안에 있으면, 그는 새로운 피조물이다”(고린도후서 5:17) He is still the Changer in the Manger. 그분은 여전히 구유에 누우신 변화시키시는 분이다. 4. To Many—Like the Shepherds—He Is the Captivator in the Manger 많은 사람들에게ㅡ목자들처럼-예수님은 말구유에 누우신 마음을 사로잡는 분이시다. Luke 2:8–15 누가복음 2:8-15 We all know how quickly we grow tired of things that once captivated us. 우리는 한때 마음을 사로잡았던 것들에 얼마나 빨리 싫증을 내는지 잘 알고 있다. But the Christian life is meant to be captivated—held, gripped, claimed—by Christ. 그러나 그리스도인의 삶은 본질적으로 ‘사로잡힌 삶’이다ㅡ그리스도께 붙잡히고, 그리스도의 손에 꼭 쥐어진, 소유된 삶. Paul said, 바울은 말했다, “I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” (Phil. 3:12) “그리스도 예수께서 나를 사로잡으셨으니 내가 그것을 붙들려고 좇아 가노라”(빌립보서3:12) Christ had captured him—and Paul never let go. 그리스도께서 그를 사로잡으셨다-바울은 결코 놓지 않았다. The shepherds were nobodies in society, not even allowed into the synagogue. But Heaven broke open for them. The angels’ message captivated their hearts—and the Child in the manger changed them forever. 목자들은 사회적으로 이름 없는 사람들이었다. 회당에조차 들어갈 수 없던 이들이다. 그러나 하늘이 그들 앞에서 열렸다. 천사들의 메시지가 그들의 마음을 사로잡았고, 말구유에 누우신 아기가 그들의 삶을 영원히 바꾸어 놓았다. Little Jim Bowlin once asked, “Why do people have to go up to heaven to be with God? Your answer depends on the condition of your heart. 당신의 대답은 당신의 마음상태에 달려있다. In the Christmas story we meet: 크리스마스 이야기에서 우리는 다음과 같은 마음을 만난다: 1. The Innkeeper — a Crowded Heart 여관 주인 ㅡ 가득 찬 마음이다. No room for Jesus. 예수를 위한 자리가 없다 2. Herod — a Callous Heart 헤롯 ― 굳어 버린 마음 Threatened by Jesus. 예수를 위협으로 느낀다 3. The Wise Men — a Confused Heart 동방 박사들 ― 혼란스러운 마음. Seeking direction. 길을 찾고 있다 4. The Scribes — a Cold Heart 서기관들 ― 차가운 마음. They knew the Scriptures but didn’t go to Him. 성경을 알고 있지만, 정작 그분께 나아가지 않았다 5. The Shepherds — a Captivated Heart 목자들 ― 사로잡힌 마음이다 They ran to Him with joy. 기쁨으로 예수님께 나아갔다. So, what kind of heart do you have this Christmas? 이번 크리스마스에 당신은 어떤 마음인가? Crowded? 가득찬 마음? Callous? 굳어버린 마음? Confused? 혼란스러운? Cold?차가운? —or— 아니면 Captivated?사로잡힌 마음? Celebrating? 그리스도를 기뻐하며 축하하는 마음? Who is Jesus to you? 예수님은 오늘 당신께 누구인가
