(Eph 2:11-22)

You know I've been to DIC quite a year so I have wanted to look around and see how other Eng depts do in Daejeon. So, I went to one of them several weeks ago and I noticed a few things 1) more interaction and 2) more Koreans. So why don't we? Shall we greet each other first in English saying" God loves you and DIC loves you" Do you know how you say "God loves you and DIC loves you" in Korean?! We usually say "사랑합니다 축복합니다“

I believe that DIC is not just a group worshiping in Daeheung 5th floor at 11 am on every Sunday. We (although sharing little things in common) are spiritual brothers and sisters united by our faith in Christ Jesus. Do you believe that? Today's verse also says "You are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God's people and also members of His household". You may be a foreigner or stranger in Korea. Many things are awkward, nothing feels like home, less belonging and connection even staying enough long years to get adjusted. However, whether you are from Indonesia, America, Belgium, white, dark, yellow skin or however you look, you are a native citizen in the kingdom of God. Shall we read this verse with a little change "We are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God's people and also members of His household."

아시다시피 저는 DIC 에 꽤 오랫동안 다녔기 때문에 대전에 있는 다른 영어학과들은 어떻게 지내는지 둘러보고 싶었습니다. 그래서 몇 주 전에 한 곳에 갔는데, 1) 더 많은 교류와 2) 더 많은 한국인들이 있다는 것을 알게 되었습니다. 그럼 왜 안 해볼까요? 먼저 영어로 "God loves you and DIC loves you"라고 인사해 볼까요? "God loves you and DIC loves you"를 한국어로 어떻게 하는지 아세요?! 보통 "사랑합니다 축복합니다"라고 합니다.

DIC 는매주일요일오전11 시대흥5 층에서예배드리는단순한모임이아니라고생각합니다.우리는(비록작은 공통점을 공유하지만) 그리스도 예수 안에서 믿음으로 하나 된 영적인 형제자매입니다. 여러분은 그렇게 생각하시나요? 오늘의 성경 구절도 "이제부터 너희는 외국인이나 나그네가 아니요, 하나님의 백성과 동일한 시민이요 그의 권속이니라"라고 말씀합니다. 여러분은 한국에서 외국인이나 나그네일 수 있습니다. 많은 것들이 어색하고, 집처럼 편안한 곳은 없고, 소속감과 유대감은 줄어들고, 적응할 만큼 오래 머물더라도 소외됩니다. 하지만 인도네시아, 미국, 벨기에, 백인, 흑인, 황인종, 혹은 어떤 외모를 가지고 있든, 당신은 하나님 나라의 토착민입니다. 이 구절을 조금 바꾸어 읽어 볼까요? "우리는 더 이상 외국인이나 나그네가 아니라, 하나님의 백성과 동일한 시민이요, 하나님의 권속입니다."

Brothers and sisters, I do not know (or neither we do) how long we worship and fellowship together in the same building, I pray for you, remember you and bless you with all my hearts and sincerity to live in peace of Christ wherever you as God has loved you first.

So through today's message, I hope that you and I experience (as I wish you all to live in peace of Christ wherever you go) the peace of Christ this time. The One we worship now at this moment is the ultimate utmost infinite good, peaceful, and righteous Being, right?! And you come all the way to the

church building after a long tiring weekdays to take care of your family, mind your business, study, or work hard then you experience no peace in the moment of interaction with the greatest Being?! The book "Reflections on The Psalms" by C.S Lewis says this

"The Scotch catechism says that man s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. But we shall then know that these are the same thing. Fully to enjoy is to glorify. In commanding us to glorify Him, God is inviting us to enjoy Him.”, This matches with the saying from an evangelist John Piper "God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him". Brothers and sisters, how are you feeling now this moment? Are you and I experiencing the peace of Christ now this worship time?!

형제자매 여러분, 우리가 같은 건물에서 얼마나 오랫동안 함께 예배하고 교제했는지 저는 모릅니다(아니면 우리도 모릅니다). 저는 여러분을 위해 기도하고, 여러분을 기억하며, 하나님께서 여러분을 먼저 사랑하신 것처럼 여러분이 어디에서든 그리스도의 평화 안에서 살 수 있도록 온 마음과 진심을 다해 축복합니다.

오늘 말씀을 통해 여러분과 제가 (여러분 모두가 어디를 가든지 그리스도의 평화 안에서 살기를 바라듯이) 이 시간 그리스도의 평화를 경험하기를 바랍니다. 지금 이 순간 우리가 예배하는 분은 궁극적으로 무한하고 선하며 평화롭고 의로우신 분이시죠?! 여러분은 힘든 평일을 마치고 가족을 돌보고, 일을 하고, 공부하고, 열심히 일하기 위해 교회 건물에 왔는데, 그 위대한 존재와 교제하는 순간에 아무런 평화도 느끼지 못하시나요?! C.S 루이스의 저서 "시편 성찰"은 이렇게 말합니다.

"스코틀랜드 요리문답은 인간의 가장 중요한 목적이 '하나님을 영화롭게 하고 영원토록 그분을 즐거워하는 것'이라고 말합니다. 하지만 우리는 이 둘이 같은 것임을 알게 될 것입니다. 온전히 즐거워하는 것이 곧 영광을 돌리는 것입니다. 하나님께서는 우리에게 그분을 영화롭게 하라고 명하심으로써, 우리가 그분을 즐거워하도록 초대하고 계십니다." 이는 복음주의자 존 파이퍼의 "우리가 그분 안에서 가장 만족할 때 하나님께서는 우리 안에서 가장 영광을 받으십니다"라는 말과 일치합니다. 형제자매 여러분, 지금 이 순간 여러분은 어떤 기분입니까? 이 예배 시간에 여러분과 저는 그리스도의 평안을 경험하고 있습니까?!

Shall we read some verses from today's message?[Eph 2:11-14, NASB]

11 Therefore remember that previously you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called "Uncircumcision" by the so-called "Circumcision" which is performed in the flesh by human hands—

12 remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the people of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

13 But now in Christ Jesus you who previously were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall

The term "peace" in the bible, is used to describe " completeness, soundness, wholeness or well- being, which is something not just we Christians seek for but just everyone else. Everyone wants well- being, wholeness, or completeness of something. Right?! Those things are such good news?! However, in the records from John's gospel, Jesus clearly differentiated the peace from the world and Christ "[Jn 14:27, NASB] Peace I leave you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you." And we found out what the peace is in today's verse. Peace is CHRIST HIMSELF. The Prince of Peace. He is the good news! [Jn 4:13-14, NASB] "Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again; but whoever drinks of the

water that I will give him shall never be thirsty, but the water that I will give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up to eternal life."

오늘 설교 말씀에서 몇 구절을 읽어 볼까요?[엡 2:11-14, 개역개정]

11 그러므로 전에 육신으로는 이방인이었던 너희가 손으로 육신에 행하는 할례를 받은 자들에게 할례받지 않은 자로 불리던 것을 기억하라.

12 그 당시에는 너희가 그리스도와 분리되어 있었고, 이스라엘 백성에게서 떠나 있었고, 약속의 언약들에 대해서는 외인이었으며, 세상에서 소망도 없고 하나님도 없는 자였음을 기억하라.

14 그분은 우리의 평화이십니다. 그분은 두 종족을 하나로 만드시고 중간에 막힌 담을 허무셨습니다. 성경에서 "평화"라는 단어는 "완전함, 건강함, 온전함, 또는 행복"을 묘사하는 데 사용되는데, 이는 우리

Brothers and sisters? Are you enjoying such spring-up water at this time? God is inviting you to enjoy then, are you enjoying it enough?

I would like to suggest how to experience with care by reading today's verses.

12 "Remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the people of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world" The way we first experience Christ as peace and good news is to acknowledge our sinfulness. Shall we read this
together ?" awareness of our sin =new mind toward God"

The book Institutes of the Christian Religion by John Calvin (the great reformer), begins with the definition of true wisdom that consists of two parts: the knowledge of God and of ourselves. These two are actually interconnected very well. Self-knowledge is about the awareness of his sinfulness. Aware of how selfish, deceptive, arrogant, and sinful he is, he will find no peace and hope in Him and lead him to look up to God. Even God's knowledge is the only way to touch or affect the awareness of people's lowly state, which leads to knowledge of God. so these two are the key parts of true wisdom. "Man is never sufficiently touched and affected by the awareness of his lowly state until he has compared himself with God's majesty." One of the books that illustrates it well is the Book of Job.

형제자매 여러분, 지금 이 시간에도 그런 샘물을 누리고 계신가요? 하나님께서 여러분을 초대하고 계십니다. 충분히 누리고 계신가요?

오늘의 구절들을 읽으면서 어떻게 하면 주의 깊게 경험할 수 있는지 제안하고 싶습니다.

12 절 "그때에 여러분은 그리스도와 분리되어 있었고 이스라엘 자손에게서 떠나 있었고 약속의 언약들에 대하여 외인이었으며 세상에서 소망도 없고 하나님도 없는 자였습니다." 우리가 그리스도를 평화와 복음으로 처음 경험하는 방법은 우리의 죄성을 인정하는 것입니다. 함께 이 부분을 읽어 볼까요? "죄에 대한 인식 = 하나님을 향한 새로운 마음"

위대한 개혁가 존 칼빈의 『기독교 강요』는 참된 지혜에 대한 정의로 시작합니다. 참된 지혜는 하나님에 대한 지식과 우리자신에대한지식,이두부분으로구성되어있습니다.사실이둘은서로밀접하게연결되어있습니다.자기인식은 자신의 죄성을 인식하는 것입니다. 자신이 얼마나 이기적이고, 기만적이며, 교만하고, 죄악스러운지를 인식하는 사람은 하나님 안에서 평화와 소망을 찾지 못하고 하나님을 우러러보지 못할 것입니다. 심지어 신에 대한 지식만이 사람들의 비천한 상태에대한인식을건드리거나영향을줄수있는유일한방법이며,이는신에대한지식으로이어집니다.따라서이두 가지가 참된 지혜의 핵심입니다. "사람은 자신을 신의 위엄과 비교해 보기 전까지는 자신의 비천한 상태에 대한 인식에 충분히 감동받고 영향을 받지 못합니다." 이를 잘 보여주는 책 중 하나가 욥기입니다.

DIC MESSAGE 3

It describes the finite being of mankind, but at the end, it shows the infinite being of God then he realizes his lowly state being and praises the Lord. Such a journey (knowing ourselves and knowing God) is our journey as believers. The book "Dynamics of Spiritual Life" by Richard F Lovelace uses the term "Repentant Faith". Not we repent for one time occasion but continuous awareness of our lowly state for the awareness of the Highest Being.

"To have faith is to receive God's Word as truth and rest upon it in dependent trust; to repent is to have a new mind toward God, oneself, Christ, and the world, committing one's heart to a new obedience to God. Obviously, these two factors are so interwoven that they are experienced as one so that the condition of justification is not faith plus repentance, but repentant faith.

Brothers and sisters, repentance is not just one occasion that we ought to do just to go to church. It's a continuous process like we do dishes everyday. If to repent is to have a new mind toward God, then we must have such a new mind everyday and every moment, right? [Ro 12:2, NASB] 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Brothers and sisters, if you have no peace, no joy, no satisfaction in Him, I pray that you and I have a new mind toward God by repentance, and the One who illuminates such sinfulness and renews the new mind and joy of salvation is the Holy Spirit.

이 책은 인간의 유한한 존재를 묘사하지만, 결국 하나님의 무한한 존재를 보여주고, 인간은 자신의 비천함을 깨닫고 주님을 찬양합니다. 이러한 여정(자신을 알고 하나님을 아는 것)이 바로 신자로서 우리의 여정입니다. 리처드 F. 러브레이스의 저서 『영적 삶의 역동성』에서는 "회개하는 신앙"이라는 용어를 사용합니다. 우리는 단 한 번의 회개가 아니라, 지극히 높으신 분을 알기 위해 우리의 비천한 상태를 끊임없이 자각합니다.

믿음을 갖는다는 것은 하나님의 말씀을 진리로 받아들이고 그 위에 의존적인 신뢰로 안주하는 것입니다. 회개는 하나님, 자신, 그리스도, 그리고 세상을 향해 새로운 마음을 갖고, 하나님께 새로운 순종을 드리는 것입니다. 분명히 이 두 요소는 서로 밀접하게 얽혀 하나로 경험되므로, 칭의의 조건은 믿음과 회개가 아니라 회개하는 믿음입니다.

형제자매여러분,회개는단지교회에가기위해한번만하는것이아닙니다.마치매일설거지를하는것처럼 끊임없는 과정입니다. 회개가 하나님을 향해 새로운 마음을 갖는 것이라면, 우리는 매일 매 순간 그러한 새로운 마음을 가져야 합니다. 그렇지 않습니까? [로마서 12:2, NASB] 2 이 세대를 본받지 말고 오직 마음을 새롭게 함으로 변화를 받아 하나님의 선하시고 기뻐하시고 온전하신 뜻이 무엇인지 분별하도록 하라. 형제자매 여러분, 만일 여러분에게 평안도 없고 기쁨도 없고 만족도 없다면, 저는 여러분과 회개를 통해 나는 하나님께 대하여 새로운 마음을 갖게 되었고, 그러한 죄성을 밝혀 주시고 구원의 새로운 마음과 기쁨을 새롭게 하시는 분은 성령이십니다.

[Eph 2:17-22, NASB]
17 And He came and preached peace to you who were far away, and peace to those who were near; 18 for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.
19 So then you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and

are of God's household,
20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the

cornerstone,
21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.

DIC MESSAGE 4

With the help of the Holy Spirit, we realize our state of being (far away from peace or near to peace) we restore the joy of salvation and joy of our identity, fellow citizens of the kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. But the problem is this. Even at this moment of service, devotion, or others, we experience such joy, satisfaction, and peace, how about outside of the church? Our sinful nature still remains and the world's shaking us to stumble, how do we stay in peace of Christ in such circumstances? First, remember that the battle belongs to the Lord. Christ already gave us victory and He is in control ([Ro 8:28, NASB] And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.)

17 그분께서 오셔서 멀리 있던 너희에게 평안을 전하시고 가까이 있던 자들에게도 평안을 전하셨습니다. 18이는그분을통해우리둘이한성령안에서아버지께나아감을얻게되었기때문입니다.
19 그러므로 이제부터 여러분은 외인도 아니고 나그네도 아니요 성도들과 동일한 시민이요 하나님의 권속입니다. 20 여러분은 사도들과 선지자들의 터 위에 세워졌고 그리스도 예수께서 친히 모퉁잇돌이 되셨습니다. 21그분안에서건물마다서로연결하여주안에서거룩한성전이되어가고있습니다.
22 여러분도 그분 안에서 성령 안에서 하나님의 거하실 처소가 되기 위해 함께 지어지고 있습니다.
성령의 도움으로 우리는 우리의 상태(평안에서 멀리 떨어져 있든 평화에 가깝든)를 깨닫고 구원의 기쁨과 하나님

나라의 동료 시민이라는 정체성의 기쁨을 회복합니다. 하나님 나라는 먹고 마시는 것이 아니라 성령 안에서 의와 평안과 기쁨입니다. 그러나 문제는 이것입니다. 봉사와 헌신, 혹은 다른 사람들과의 이 순간에도 우리는 기쁨과 만족, 그리고 평안을 경험합니다. 교회 밖에서는 어떨까요? 우리의 죄성은 여전히 남아 있고 세상은 우리를 넘어지게 흔들어 넘어지게 합니다. 그런 상황에서 어떻게 그리스도의 평안 안에 머물 수 있을까요? 첫째, 이 싸움은 주님께 속해 있음을 기억하십시오. 그리스도께서 이미 우리에게 승리를 주셨고, 그분이 모든 것을 주관하십니다([로마서 8:28, NASB] 우리는 알거니와 하나님을 사랑하는 자 곧 그의 뜻대로 부르심을 입은 자들에게는 모든 것이 합력하여 선을 이루느니라).

And second thing, which we find out in this verse, is growing together. Shall we read together? "Growing together." Shall we read verse 21 together?

in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord.

The letters to Ephesian and Colossian churches are well known do describe well about unity as a body of Christ. Let me read more verses

[Eph 4:15-16, NASB]

15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, that is, Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

[Col 2:19, NASB]

... to the head (Christ), from whom the entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and ligaments, grows with a growth which is from God.

Can you look at the people next to us and say, "We grow together in Christ"? He calls the church a body! Although it's a figure of speech to emphasize the unity of the community, think about if we are connected as one and the same body, the difficulty of other members must be the difficulty of me. If the

people next to you have great news, then I am delighted too. [1Co 12:26, NASB] And if one part of the body suffers, all the parts suffer with it; if a part is honored, all the parts rejoice with it. Such interaction will help us stay in the peace of Christ.

두 번째로, 이 구절에서 우리가 발견하는 것은 함께 자라는 것입니다. 함께 읽어 볼까요? "함께 자라는 것"입니다. 21 절을 함께 읽어 볼까요?

... 머리(그리스도)에게로, 온 몸이 마디와 힘줄로 공급을 받고 결합되어 하나님께로서 자라나느니라.
우리 옆에 있는 사람들을 보고 "우리는 그리스도 안에서 함께 자랍니다"라고 말할 수 있습니까? 그분은 교회를

몸이라고 부르십니다! 공동체의 연합을 강조하기 위한 비유이긴 하지만, 우리가 하나의 몸으로 연결되어 있다면 다른 지체들의 어려움은 곧 제 어려움일 것입니다. 옆에 있는 사람들이 좋은 소식을 전하면 저도 기쁩니다. [고전 12:26, NASB] 몸의한지체가고통을받으면모든지체도함께고통을받고한지체가영광을얻으면모든지체도함께기뻐합니다.이러한 상호 작용은 우리가 그리스도의 평화 안에 머물도록 도울 것입니다.

Not just you alone (even though God already gave us victory) walk in the journey of faith but we, through fellowship, look after one another, which will help us come closer to the Lord, and grow together as a body of Christ.

Brothers and sisters, we DIC (multi different colors and people family in Christ Jesus) may not know how long we can worship and fellowship here in this building. So I wish that whatever you do and wherever you go, you live in the peace of Christ, which is the completeness and soundness state of being in Christ, so then you will live prosperous inside and outside of you. His peace surpasses all understanding and will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. But I don't want to speak like a magic spell that all is well when you go to church, cuz it's superficial peace that God criticizes in Jeremiah. I want you to live in peace by realizing your sinful, lowly state of being to experience the highest knowledge, which is the continuous journey as a follower of Christ. That journey is precious and valuable but still challenging enough to fall. However, don't worry. God is in control and we (who are strangers in the world but fellow citizens in Christ) will walk and grow together by praying and loving one another.

여러분만 믿음의 여정을 걷는 것이 아닙니다(하나님께서 이미 우리에게 승리를 주셨음에도 불구하고). 우리는 교제를 통해 서로를 돌보고, 이를 통해 주님께 더 가까이 나아가 그리스도의 몸으로 함께 성장합니다.
