“They spoke against God, saying, ‘Can God spread a table in the desert?’” “ ’”

The Bible is full of in-between moments. 성경은 수많은 그 사이의 순간들로 가득 차 있다.
Psalm 78 tells the story of Israel — God’s faithfulness on one hand, and human fear and doubt on the other. The setting is the wilderness — the long season between Egypt and the Promised Land.

시편 78 편은 이스라엘의 이야기를 들려준다ᅳ한쪽에는 하나님의 신실하심이, 다른 한쪽에는 인간의 두려움과 의심이 있다. 그 배경은 바로 광야이다ᅳ이집트에서 약속의 땅에 이르기까지의 긴 '사이'의 계절.
Wilderness living is not easy. 광야에서의 삶은 결코 쉽지 않다.
The questions were real: 사람들의 질문은 절실했다.

How long will this last?"이 고난이 얼마나 더 계속될까?"
Why can’t we get there sooner?"왜 더 빨리 갈 수는 없는 걸까?"

Where is God now? "지금 하나님은 어디 계시는가?"
We live in a culture that values speed and immediacy. Korea is famous for “ppalli-ppalli” — 빨리빨리 — hurry, hurry. Fast internet, fast delivery, fast results. 우리는 속도와 즉각적인 결과를 중요하게 여기는 문화 속에 살고 있습니다. 특히 한국은 '빨리빨리' 문화로 유명하다. 빠른 인터넷, 빠른 배달, 그리고 빠른 결과물.
But God rarely works in a “ppalli-ppalli” way. 하지만 하나님은 좀처럼 '빨리빨리' 방식으로 일하지 않으신다. God forms people in the wilderness. 하나님은 광야에서 사람을 빚으신다.
Transformation takes time. 변화에는 시간이 걸리기 때문이다.
To reach the Promised Land, Israel had to leave Egypt. But leaving Egypt did not mean arriving immediately in Canaan. There was a desert in between. 약속의 땅에 도달하기 위해, 이스라엘은 이집트를 떠나야만 했다. 하지만 이집트를 떠났다고 해서 곧바로 가나안에 도착한 것은 아니었다. 그 사이에는 반드시 거쳐야 할 사막이 있었다. And in that desert, they asked: 그 사막에서, 이스라엘 백성은 질문했다:
“Can God set a table in the wilderness?” “하나님이 광야에서 음식을 제공할 수 있을까? ”
That question is still alive today. 그 질문은 오늘날에도 여전히 살아 있다.

I. The Wilderness Is Solitary 광야는 고독한 곳이다

By definition, the wilderness is lonely. 정의하자면, 광야는 외로운 곳이다.
It is vast and disorienting. Everything looks the same. Even when surrounded by people, you can feel completely alone. 그곳은 광활하며 방향을 잃게 만든다. 모든 풍경이 똑같아 보이기 때문이다. 사람들 사이에 둘러싸여 있을 때조차, 당신은 철저히 혼자라고 느낄 수 있다.
We all experience wilderness seasons: 우리는 모두 인생에서 광야의 계절을 경험한다.
Waiting for exam results or a job interview 시험 결과나 취업 면접 결과를 기다릴 때

Hoping for good news from a doctor 의사로부터 기쁜 소식이 들려오길 바랄 때 Watching finances become tight 재정문제가 힘겨워지는 것을 지켜볼 때 Worrying about children 자녀 문제로 염려하며
Trying to repair a relationship 깨진 관계를 회복하려 애쓸 때

Living with grief 깊은 슬픔과 함께 살아갈 때
Feeling stuck in life 삶에서 갇혀버린 듯한 기분이 들 때
In those moments, it is easy to think: 그런 순간마다, 이런 생각을 하기 쉽다: “God has forgotten me.” "하나님이 나를 잊으셨구나."
But often the opposite is true. 하지만 실제로는 그 반대인 경우가 많다.

We are the ones who have forgotten God. 우리가 하나님을 잊은 자들이다. II. In the Wilderness There Is a Table 광야에는 식탁이 있다

Notice the question: “Can God set a table in the wilderness?”

이 질문을 주목하라. "하나님이 광야에서 식탁을 베풀 수 있으랴?"

The table is a powerful biblical symbol. 성경에서 식탁은 매우 강력한 상징이다. Psalm 23 says, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.” 시편 23 편은 "주께서 내 원수의 목전에서 내게 상(식탁)을 차려 주시고"라고 말한다. In Scripture, the table represents fellowship, provision, rest, and belonging.

성경 속에서 식탁은 교제와 공급, 안식, 그리고 소속감을 의미한다.

In Korean culture, the table also carries deep meaning. 한국 문화에서도 식탁은 깊은 의미를 지닌다.
Think of a Korean family meal — rice, soup, kimchi, many side dishes spread across the table. Food is not just nutrition. It is a relationship. It is care. It is love expressed. 한국 가정의 식사를 떠올려 보라. 밥과 국, 김치, 그리고 상 위에 가득 펼쳐진 수많은 반찬들 말이다. 음식은 단순한 영양소가 아니다. 그것은 관계다. 그것은 보살핌이다. 표현된 사랑이다.
When a Korean mother says, “밥 먹었어?” — “Have you eaten?” — she is really asking, “Are you okay? Do you feel cared for?” 한국의 어머니가 "밥 먹었어?"라고 물을 때, 어머니의 질문은 사실 "너 괜찮니? 사랑받고 있다고 느끼니?"라고 묻고 있는 것이다.
God is not just providing calories. God is providing care.
하나님은 단지 열량만 공급하시는 분이 아니다. 하나님은 보살핌을 공급하신다.
That is Israel’s deeper question: 그것이 바로 이스라엘이 가졌던 더 깊은 차원의 질문이었다.
God, have you gone ahead of us? 하나님, 우리보다 앞서가 계십니까?
Have you prepared the place? 그곳을 미리 준비해 두셨습니까?
Are you already there? 이미 그곳에 계시는 건가요?
And Scripture answers again and again: 그리고 성경은 거듭해서 대답한다:
Yes. 그렇다.

God led them through the Red Sea. 하나님은 이스라엘 백성을 이끌고 홍해를 건너게 하셨다. He delivered them from Pharaoh. 그들을 파라오의 손에서 구원하셨다.
He guided them with cloud and fire. 구름 기둥과 불 기둥으로 그들을 인도하셨다.
He brought water from the rock. 반석에서 물이 솟아나게 하셨다.

Yet they still asked: 그런데도 그들은 여전히 질문했다.
“Can God set a table in the wilderness?” So God rained down manna. "

“하나님이 광야에서 식탁을 베풀 수 있으랴?" 그래서 하나님은 만나를 비처럼 내리셨다.

Then He sent quail. Their problem was never God’s ability — it was their trust.

그 다음에는 메추라기를 보내셨다. 이스라엘의 문제는 결코 하나님의 능력이 아니었다ᅳ그들의 신뢰였다.

We sometimes act as if we serve a poor God. 우리는 때때로 마치 우리가 가난한 하나님을 섬기는 것처럼 행동한다. We worry about resources. 우리는 자원을 걱정한다.
We fear the future. 우리는 미래를 두려워한다.
We calculate only what we can see. 우리는 오직 눈에 보이는 것만으로 계산한다.

But in Christ are hidden all the riches of heaven. 하지만 그리스도 안에 하늘의 모든 보화가 감추어져 있다. Here is the paradox: If you stay in Egypt, you never need manna.
여기에 역설이 있다. 만약 당신이 이집트에 머물러 있다면, 결코 만나가 필요하지 않다.
But you also never see miracles. The wilderness reveals both our weakness and God’s provision.

III. The Wilderness Is Temporary 광야는 일시적인 곳이다

The wilderness can feel: 광야는 이렇게 느껴질 수 있다: Dangerous 위험하고

Lonely 외롭고 Confusing 혼란스럽고 Hopeless 절망적이다

You may stay there longer than you want. 당신은 당신이 원하는 것보다 더 오랫동안 그곳에 머물게 될지도 모른다.

So, where is your wilderness? 그렇다면, 당신의 광야는 어디인가? A difficult relationship? 힘겨운 인간관계?
Job uncertainty? 불투명한 직장 생활?
Illness? 질병?

Depression? 우울?
Family conflict? 가족 간의 갈등?
A struggling ministry? 고군분투 중인 사역인가?

Whatever it is — remember this: 그것이 무엇이든ᅳ이것을 기억하라:
The wilderness is not your destination. 광야는 당신이 목적지가 아니다.

There is an old saying: “This too shall pass.” 이런 옛말이 있다. "이 또한 지나가리라."
The Israelites survived because they believed in Canaan.
이스라엘 백성들이 살아남을 수 있었던 이유는 그들이 가나안 땅의 존재를 믿었기 때문이다.

Hope changes how you endure hardship. 소망은 당신이 고난을 견뎌내는 방식을 바꾼다. Conclusion — Our Story 결론 ᅳ 우리의 이야기

Again and again, we have experienced in-between seasons — wilderness seasons — times when the future was unclear 거듭해서 우리는 미래가 불투명했던 '그 사이'의 계절ᅳ즉 광야의 계절ᅳ을 경험해 왔다.
And every single time, God proved faithful. He prepared a table in the wilderness.
그리고 매 순간마다, 하나님은 신실함을 증명해 보이셨다. 그분은 광야에서 식탁을 마련해 주셨다.

So today we ask again: 그러니 오늘 우리는 다시 묻는다.
Can God prepare a table in our wilderness? 하나님은 우리의 광야에서 식탁을 예비하실 수 있는가?

Can God meet us where we are? 하나님은 우리가 처한 바로 그곳에서 우리를 만나주실 수 있는가? Can God provide in our in-between season?
하나님은 이 '그 사이'의 계절 속에서도 우리에게 필요한 것을 공급해 주실 수 있는가?

The answer is clear: Yes. 대답은 명확하다. 그렇다.
God was there. God is there. And God is already ahead of us.
하나님은 그곳에 계셨다. 하나님은 지금도 그곳에 계신다. 그리고 하나님은 이미 우리보다 앞서 그곳에 계신다.
